Your task in this assessed practical is to interpret the geological map of Assynt.
You must:
- Draw a sketch map of the area, identifying and labelling the key features of this map.
- Draw a cross section through this map from NC 21 25 to NC 35 25.
- Draw a generalised vertical stratigraphy of the mapped area.
- Describe the main structures (faults, folds, unconformities, and igneous intrusions) you can see on this map.
- Interpret the geological history of the Assynt area using the geological map. You should also use your preexisting knowledge of the geology of Scotland and the geological literature to describe the environments and conditions in which each rock unit was formed and put this together to tell the full geological story of this area.
