Preparation

There will be a coursework preparation tutorial on 28 February 2023 where you are expected to develop your initial plan for the coursework into a short coursework proposal of no more than 250 words. You will be given a deadline two weeks after your scheduled tutorial to complete an online form to submit your proposal. (15 March 2023) A link to the form will be available on Blackboard. You will receive feedback on your proposal from the unit director which will help you develop your essay. The coursework proposals will be graded. Students who fail to submit a proposal will receive a mark of zero on this element.

Subject matter

You must ensure that you choose a current issue facing external financial statement auditing and a relevant audit theory. Please be aware that there are other forms of auditing so you must choose your current issue carefully. You can use the coursework tutorial and attend office hour appointments with your tutor to discuss your chosen issue. As this is a 2,000-word essay you are advised to narrow down your chosen issue and select elements of your chosen theory to allow depth of discussion (see academic argument). Please note that your current issue must NOT be an audit scandal. Your coursework essay should not be a case study of an auditing scandal.

Knowledge and understanding

The lectures will introduce audit theory. You are expected to read beyond the lectures in your chosen area of audit theory and investigate a chosen audit issue. You will also be assessed on how you apply this relevant knowledge in the discussion of your chosen audit issue in the academic argument section –essays which simply describe the theory or issue chosen will not score high marks. Reading suggestions will be made during the relevant lecture.

Scholarship

You must not use more than twelve primary sources in total in your essay. Typically, an academic essay of this length should have around 8-12 sources as a guide. Essays that use more than twelve primary sources will receive a reduction to their mark in relation to this criteria. You must ensure you use sources to support and give evidence/authority to your argument/claims rather than simply reproducing the argument made in the source. Overreliance on sources and practices such as patchwriting are considered poor academic practice and should be avoided. Please also note the guidance on secondary references in the academic practice section below.

You should ensure that sources you use are good quality and are used in support of your argument. Some of these sources must be from recent good quality academic literature. You are advised to use a search tool such as Business Source Complete and filter for peer reviewed sources (available here https://bristol.libguides.com/accounting-finance/company-information ). There will be a coursework support session to give advice regarding finding good quality academic sources. You should not use an online dissertation/thesis, ‘sample essay’ or past student essays as sources. You should avoid using online blogs and commercial webpages as these may not be of good quality.  AUDITING作业代写

Academic argument

You must use a relevant audit theory to analyse the current issue you have chosen. Marks will be available for using the theory to analyse the current issue and/or hypothesise potential outcomes/results of the issue. Higher marks will be awarded to students who show greater depth in their argument, an ability to critically analyse and engage effectively with sources in support of their argument. Think carefully about the structure (or flow) of your argument and whether it makes sense to the reader. As mentioned above essays which are descriptive (describing the audit theory and describing the audit issue with no link between the two) will score lower marks.

Academic practice

The maximum word allowance is 2,000 words, a word count should be stated at the start of the essay, and this will be checked by the marker. Essays which exceed 2,000 words will receive a reduction to the  mark on this criterion. All contents of the essay other than the essay title and the reference list are included in the word count.  AUDITING作业代写

Please make sure you submit the essay following the submission instructions. You MUST include a cover sheet, a feedback form and save the essay as a PDF using the correct naming style. Instructions will be provided once you are able to make a submission which is usually around a week before the deadline. This ensures the essay is in a suitable format for marking.

Harvard is the format that must be used in this essay for citation and referencing. The Library has a guide to referencing here http://www.bris.ac.uk/library/subject-support/referencing/ along with links to an online tutorial. From this page you can also access Cite Them Right – which is a comprehensive online tool which will help you correctly construct your references. Sources accessed online from the Library or by using Business Source Complete also provide citations – but you should check these are complete before including in your essay. If your source is not from an academic publication/journal and you found it online, please include a URL at the end of your reference and the date you accessed the source.

Direct quotations from sources must be enclosed in quotation marks

– which must be double quotes “.” and not single quotes ‘’’. This is due to the software we use to check originality of the submissions. If you are using phrases from a source – even if these are a few words – you should put these words in quotation marks to show good academic practice.

You must cite not only sources quoted but also any sources you have used for ideas/facts in your essay. It is important to acknowledge the sources used as this demonstrates your engagement with the sources to build your argument and the breadth of your reading.  AUDITING作业代写

Secondary referencing: please note that the twelve sources limit relates to primary sources. If you have read a source that cites another source for example if you have read about Naylor’s work in a textbook by Hillichamp– then you should use the citation form Naylor (1999) cited in Hillichamp (2015), and only include the source you have read in the reference list (so here only Hillichamp (2015) would be in the reference list– as that is what you have read). This is important as you are being assessed on your reading – so please do not include sources you have not read in your reference list.

You must submit assessed work before the deadline. Work that has been submitted late without extenuating circumstances is penalised by a reduction of ten marks (out of 100) for each 24-hour period after the agreed deadline, not including UK public holidays or University closure days. If the work is submitted late such that at least four such 24-hour periods have elapsed, the mark awarded will automatically default to zero. (Please see section 17 of the University Regulations and Code of Practice for further details)

Secondary submission period (Reassessments)

Should the Business School require a student to resubmit their coursework essay or submit in a later period (for example due to extenuating circumstances) the essay question remains the same as that outlined in this document.

In the case of a reassessment, the essay question remains the same as that outlined in this document but a different audit issue and audit theory to that used in the first submission would need to be used in the reassessment submission.
