You have been provided with the data both clinical, demographic and inflammatory markers for 10 healthy, 10 Oral Crohn’s and 10 Lichen Planus patients.

It is your task to write a data report from the hypothesis onwards, it is not necessary to produce any background, introduction or methodology. You should decide upon a 1-3 questions you wish to ask of the data. For example, “does the level of CRP differ between healthy patients and those with oral diseases?” you should formulate your null and alternative hypothesis around these questions.

The final submission should be completed by the 25^th of January. And the format should be as follows.

1. Research question(s): With null and alternative hypothesis relevant to your question
2. Pick which variables / parameters are off interest (which variables you believe could impact or be impacted by our groups)
3. Test each variable to see if it is normal within your groups
4. Use the Normality test (Shapiro wilk Significance value) to inform which statistical test you use

• Only whether or not the data was normal should be reported in the results (for example “X test was used because the data was normal”)
• Tables of Normality values from SPSS should not be included

5. Test your variable using the relevant test

• The p-value and whether or not this indicated significance should be reported
• SPSS tables showing the statistical test should not be included
• The significance value usually represented as * can be indicated on the figures

6. Figures

• Appropriate figures to answer the questions (i.e. comparing differences of one clinical measurement between groups)
• A legend with the figure number (Figure 1 for example) followed by a brief description (for example “Figure 1. A bar chart illustrating the mean concentrations between Oral Crohn’s, Lichen Planus and Healthy cohorts”)
• Use the literature as a guide when writing figure legends, they should be brief but indicate what each figure is showing

7. Results

• Describe what each of your figures show (for example “Figure 1 shows differences between …”)
• Not what test you used to measure significance, why you used that test and whether or not any significance was found

8. Discussion

• Interpret what your analysis found in relation to your initial questions
• Does the data agree with your hypothesis?
• Discuss why or why not the data agrees with your hypothesis
• Use the current literature to help interpret your findings
• Cite any references that you make reference to.
